The refugee flows from the Middle East into the European continent have aspired anti-establishment approaches to everyday art practice and humanist art movements. Curators and artists alike have spontaneously been emotionally, conceptually and stylistically inspired by the struggles and misfortunes of refugees and migrants in the Aegean. The artistic use of thermal blankets has constituted a phenomenon spread throughout the art production and art marketing of the European North. Humanist star-artists such as Ai Wei Wei and many international young greek artists have been informing their practices with new radical humanist methods deriving directly from the locales, everyday life and deaths of struggling refugees, among them Ai Wei's studio at the beach of Lesvos has been proven the most iconic. Documena was there scrutinising this new wave of humanism.

Indigenous You Got Talent

‘’Indigenous you got talent’’ was created especially for Documena (Δοκούμενα) as part of Athens Biennale 2017,‘’Waiting for the Barbarians’’. It is a performance piece whose creation was based on the structure of a trashy TV-show/ talent show/ beauty competition. It challenges political correctness, the role of contemporary ‘’political art’’ and its representatives by celebrating the decay of a completely disoriented society.

**Racist Discourse Alert** This is an opening lecture for Documena at the Athens Biennale in 2017, "Resurrection with Documena". The artists attempt a discursive mix-match of various strands of neo-conservative far-right racist ideology that since the brake of the European crisis seem to have been influencing western political discourse as well as artists too. Documenta 14 visiting Athens seemed unable to avoid romanticising the "South" and the Greek crisis. The lecture mocks the ideological naivité of left-wing/anarchist "political spiritualism" and is inspired by the influence of conservative neo-folk or third-positionist tech-folk ideas apparent in Greek parliamentary political alliances of left (Syriza) and far-right ("Independent Greeks") parties or reactionary ideas such as the "Eurasian Union" vs the European Union and the importance of Putinist Orthodox Russia as a legitimate political ally.

anti-documena fb troll
Throughout its year of operation, Documena had the pleasure to be continuously attacked by the pro-documenta troll profile of Anna Apostolopoulou. There have been many theories about who is the actual person behind the profile, ranging from people working as curator assistants for documenta14 to local anti-artists. Regardless of whose the fb profile really is, Documena had much fun playing trolling/counter-trolling with Anna throughout 2017.

May we take a moment to clarify that according to official sources, the work decided to be presented in Kassel by the National Museum of Contemporary Arts will be based on the museological research of NEW director Katerina Koskina and NOT - we repeat: NOT - former ex-director Anna Kafetsi.
